"To Kill a Mockingbird" is an incredible novel, where a black man named Tom Robinson is accused of rape by a white woman. This story is told from the the perspective of the lawyer Atticus's daughter, eight year old Jean Louse "Scout" Finch in Maycomb, Alabama. It is set in the 1930's, where racism had a tight hold on the south, and where one was discriminated against for being of a different skin color. While Tom Robinson is sent to court, Scout and her brother Jeremy go about their summer, intrigued by the phantom, the rumors of an old man "Boo" Radley. As the court progresses, and innocence is tried, the two learn and progress, learning of the racism and darkness of their town.
This novel was published by Harper E. Lee in 1960, after three years of editing. It is the sequel of "Go Set a Watchman", though it was published prior to the original manuscript. |
